About the Origins of His Narratives
The bases of all of his novels stem from his personal and professional experiences.
- Penal Fires portrays Madison, Wisconsin in the afternmath of the anti-Viet Nam War protests of the 1970s and the release of mentally-ill patients from state institutions in the 1980s.
- Metadata Murders is based on the knowledge of metadata Bill gained during his time as chair of the Networked Resources and Metadata subcommittee for the American Library Association from 1999-2001.
- The Mission novels form books 1-2 of the Escape the New Immortals series. Their genesis comes from William’s experience as original cataloger of Western European languages and literature for the University of Minnesota. His work as bibliographer of archaeology and African languages materials written in English promed helpful as well. This diverse scholarly background, combined with his interests in the nature of consciousness and its intersection with free will and the supernatural, make a compelling blend of cold fact and dark fantasy.
